A Flash in the Tropics was produced by Storm Comunicação Estratégica in partnership with the Atmospheric Electricity Group (ELAT) of the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (INPE). The movie is part of a lighting damage and risk mitigation project, which includes printed publications and photo exhibitions throughout Brazil.

The Atmospheric Electricity Group (ELAT) of the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (INPE), created in 1995, is a worldwide reference in lightning and thunderstorm research. ELAT is a scientific/technical organ that aims to promote scientific research on lightning physics as well as methods for improving lightning protection for people and properties.
